Provision of Immediate Life-Saving Assistance through Multipurpose Cash Transfers to 925 Households

ADRO, funded by UN OCHA, is currently implementing the Provision of Immediate Life-Saving Assistance through Multipurpose Cash Transfers project in Baidoa Rural, Bay Region, Somalia. This six-month project, initiated in July 2024, aims to provide life-saving assistance to 925 vulnerable households across six villages, addressing the challenges of food insecurity, displacement, and economic instability.

“Stakeholders convene to ensure efficient project execution and alignment with community needs.”

Households are receiving a monthly cash transfer of USD 120 through mobile money platforms to meet their immediate needs, including food and essential services. Beneficiary selection is guided by strict vulnerability criteria, prioritizing women-headed households, the elderly, disabled individuals, and child-headed families.

Key activities completed so far include:

  • Successful community consultations with local authorities and stakeholders.
  • Registration and verification of beneficiaries based on established criteria.
  • Completion of two cash disbursement phases to registered households.
  • Ongoing field monitoring and evaluation to ensure smooth implementation.

As of November 2024, two disbursement phases have been completed, with USD 222,000 distributed to registered households. This financial assistance has significantly contributed to improving food security and stabilizing the livelihoods of affected families in vulnerable villages.

While challenges such as security risks and logistical hurdles persist, ADRO continues to work closely with stakeholders to address these issues and ensure the project’s successful completion by December 2024.
